Two for May

Over the past month I have read two very good, very different books.  One is a business related book and the other a Christian book that challenges and delights.  First the business book:

The Power of Zilch by Nancy Lublin is a refreshing book that turns the tables on most of the current writing about for profit vs not for profit.  Most books for not  for profit leaders is about how to learn from the for profit sector.  Ms Lublin turns the tables.  She believes, and illustrates, how the for profit sector can benefit from many of the best practices found in the not for profit sector.  For those of us in the not for profit sector we will find some of those best practices she describes and will benefit from adding them to our own organizations.  The book is well written and provides many touch points for application.  I would rate this book a solid 7 out of 10.  Go to Review of Zilch  for a more thorough review.

The Prodigal God by Tim Keller is a very enjoyable read that challenges us to look beyond the obvious.  Luke 15 gives us several metaphors showing how much God loves us and to what extent he goes to reveal his love for us.  But Keller gives us some background information that begins opening up new insights that take us deeper into God's love.  His reflections on the older brother is something we all need to hear. This book would receive 9 out of 10.  You can read a fuller review at: The Prodigal
